life's simple joys

Aidan adores fruit....any fruit, fresh or frozen. He created this plate and surprised me with it when he brought it to me in bed. It consisted of frozen strawberries and bananas and fresh cut apples with chocolate sauce drizzled on top. It was delish...we all enjoyed eating it. Do you STILL lick the beaters? I know I shouldn't let my kids do this with the risk of getting salmonella poisoning...but it's just one of the pleasures in life that is hard to give up. And actually, I have NEVER heard of anyone getting salmonella poisoning from licking the beaters.

Now, that's what I call cooperation! ...Aidan scraping the bowl while Sadie mixes.

Aidan loves to make flower bouquets and fortunately there is no lack of beautiful flowers in these parts....this miniature bouquet he made for Sadie.

And this one, for me!

Aidan harvested a few mini carrots from his very own garden!

Thanks for coming, Dirk and Laura!

When Sadie figured out that Dirk and Laura were really gone, while holding all ten fingers up, she said, "But they said they were staying this many days," with a sad frown on her face.

I know how she felt. Even though they had nine days on Kauai, it really seemed so much shorter. Family visits always go by too quickly.
I read this quote today and immediately thought of my sister.

"The happiest of people don't necessarily have the best of everything; they just make the most of everything that comes along their way."

Laura has an incredible husband and four beautiful children, (her oldest son passed away in September). Laura has been through a lot...you could say she has had her share of trials. Despite her challenges, she contines to be possibly the most happy and positive person I know.
Thinking of you, Laura, and wishing you were still here with us!
